a musing.

Phil Albinus = father of three, husband, magazine editor, paperback hound, frustrated drummer, and aspiring novelist. I wear khakis - got a problem with that?

After reading all the rave reviews I waited to watch Winter’s Bone and I’m still glad I did. I felt like I could savor it without the raves swimming in my head. This is one of the most satisfying thrillers I’ve seen in a very long time, maybe since Roman Polanki’s The Ghost Writer - stark, sad and stubborn. It’s a view of rural life we don’t see much in movies - grinding poverty, little hope, warped values, and violence that can erupt from people with your same last name. It’s on Netflix now - see it and feel it. Jennifer Lawrence is very, very good.
